RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Civil Service Commission approve the new Classification Specification and Recruitment Bulletins for Electronic Fleet Services Technician.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
During the Fiscal Year 2014/2015 budget process, City Council approved a new position for the Transportation Department, Fleet Services Division. This new position is responsible for the advanced electrical technologies and related electrical systems contained within the City's fleet of vehicles. Responsibilities also include performing electronic and computerized vehicle systems maintenance, repair, and service activities for the City's fleet of vehicles and equipment.
The vehicles serviced by our fleet services staff have evolved technologically over the past decade. With an increasing number of the City's vehicle fleet having advanced electrical technology and systems used to power critical vehicle functions, it has become necessary to have a dedicated classification perform these duties. These critical functions include transit destination message boards, transit fareboxes, communication equipment, and vehicle management control systems such as Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL).
The proposed classification specification for Electronic Fleet Services Technician is attached (Attachment A).
