Nachbar (03/03/11) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council approve the final plans and specifications and authorize the publication of a notice inviting bids for the Sewer Bypass Construction at Jasmine Overland and Mesmer Sewer Pump Stations P 521. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: Culver City s sewer pump stations receive sewage effluent through gravity sewer pipe and then pump the effluent under pressure through a sewer force main that connects to the City of Los Angeles sewer system. In the case of pup station failure the current emergency response measure is to divert the sewage using mobile (portable trash) pumps into large capacity storage tanks that are rented from a vendor. At the same time tanker trucks must remove the sewage from the storage tanks and drive to another part of the sewer system (not associated with the particular sewer pump station) and drain it to a manhole.
