RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council (1) create a City Council Standing Affordability Subcommittee and appoint two members thereto; and (3) provide direction to the City Manager as deemed appropriate.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At the February 9, 2026 City Council Meeting, Mayor Puza received consensus to consider establishing a council subcommittee to look at affordability initiatives in Culver City including but not limited to wage theft, supporting families, childcare, and guaranteed basic income, particularly in immigrants.
At the April 13, 2026 City Council meeting, Mayor Puza received consensus for staff to explore a residential construction minimum wage program and on April 27, 2026, Vice Mayor Fish received consensus to create the affordability subcommittee and dissolve the minimum wage subcommittee.
Subcommittees are created to consider and make recommendations to the full City Council on various issues and topics that are important to the City.
There are multiple topics under the "affordability" umbrella which requires this subcommittee to be structured as a standing subcommittee, and shall comply with all Brown Act requirements.
