RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Cultural Affairs Commission ("CAC") approve the proposed revisions to the public art concept titled, Cirrostratus, for the C3 development project at 5800 Bristol Pkwy.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
On February 16, 2016, the CAC approved Refik Anadol's public art concept titled, Cirrostratus, for the C3 development project at 5800 Bristol Pkwy. which is being developed by IDS Real Estate Group. The C3 campus includes a 7-story creative office building with an adjacent multi-story parking structure (http://www.culvercitycreative.com/). Cirrostratus is a three-dimensional artwork designed for installation on the southwest and southeast facing exterior facades of the new parking structure and is inspired by high-level clouds of the same name and the multi-colored prismatic effects of light reflection and refraction that they display.
The original concept, as presented to the CAC earlier this year, included installing approximately 300-400 vertical blades made of a polycarbonate and/or acrylic with a dichroic film incorporated into each blade resulting in an ever-changing canvas of colored light refraction and shadow across the parking structure as the sunlight moves across the site.
