RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve an Agreement with LexisNexis for the usage of Accurint(r), an investigative database, to search for suspects in all manners of crimes for a term ending on June 30, 2020 in an amount-not-to-exceed $85,500.00.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

LexisNexis is a privately operated commercial database providing sensitive personal information to authorized investigators. During the initial stages of an investigation, information is scarce. Accurint(r) for Law Enforcement is an investigative technology that can expedite the identification of people and their assets, addresses, relatives, and business associates by providing instant access to a comprehensive database of public records such as residential history, employment records, motor vehicles, and cellular telephone information. The information the database provides enables law enforcement to locate suspects.

The Police Department has been using the Accurint(r) database as a criminal investigation resource for over 15 years.
