RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council (1) award a construction contract to CJ Concrete Construction, Inc. as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, in the amount of $289,366.00 for the Sidewalk, Curb Ramp, and Driveway Approach Improvement Project, PZ-428 (Project); and (2) authorize the Public Works Director to approve change orders to the contract in an amount not-to-exceed $72,341.00 to cover contingency costs (25%).


BACKGROUND

The City receives maintenance requests from the public for broken and uplifted concrete sidewalks, curb ramps, driveway approaches and street sections. Public Works staff compiles resident requests and investigates them to assess the damage and potential hazard to pedestrians. In addition to the ongoing repairs completed by Public Works Maintenance and Operations Staff, the Engineering Division regularly manages projects that can address many locations at once, prioritizing locations based on factors such as severity, budget constraints, and previous maintenance measures.
