RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council approve the final plans and specifications and
authorize the publication of a notice inviting bids for the Washington Boulevard
Striping and Bike Lane Project, PZ-965 (Project).
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The existing lane line striping and pavement markings on Washington Boulevard
from Sepulveda Boulevard to the westerly city boundary at Walnut Avenue/Del Rey
Avenue are faded and are in need of repainting. To enhance lane line visibility on
the concrete roadway, the project will include black paint extensions to the standard
lane lines, in the same fashion as used on the Sepulveda Boulevard widening
project.
The Culver City Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP) categorizes Washington
Boulevard as a Primary Bikeway Corridor in need of bike facility improvements. The
proposed Project would add approximately 2.45 miles of Class II bike lane or Class
III bike route on Washington Boulevard. Shared lanes (bike routes) are proposed
where lane widths do not allow adequate space for bike lanes. The proposed bike
lane and bike route (shared lanes) segments are:

1. From Walnut Ave./Del Rey Ave. to Walgrove Ave. – Bike Route
2. From Walgrove Ave. to Lyceum Ave. – Bike Lane
3. From Lyceum Ave. to Wade St. – Bike Route
4. From Wade St. to Chase Ave. – Bike Lane
5. From Chase Ave. to Centinela Ave. – Bike Route
6. From Centinela Ave. to Sepulveda Blvd. – Bike Lane City of Culver City, California

The proposed bike lane/bike route will connect to the existing bike lane/bike route in
the City of Los Angeles from the Project limit to Venice Beach.
The City’s engineering consultant, Willdan Engineering, prepared the Project plans
and specifications at a cost of $23,320.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this item at this time.
