RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Civil Service Commission (Commission) (1) hear the administration of Oath of Office for the newly appointed Commission member, and (2) select, by majority vote, a Chairperson and Vice Chairperson to serve in those capacities until the next reorganization in July 2027 or thereafter.
BACKGROUND
In Fiscal Year 2025/2026, the Commission had one vacant seat as of January 1, 2026, due to former Commissioner Rachelle Jackson resigning her appointment. The City Clerk's Office advertised and recruited applicants to fill the Commission's one vacancy along with other City Council appointed vacancies for Commissions, Boards, and Committees.
On June 8, 2026, City Council appointed one new Commissioner to fill the Civil Service Commission seat.
PROCEDURE
The Secretary to the Civil Service Commission shall administer the Oath of Office to the appointed Commissioner and the new Commissioner shall join the meeting as a participating and voting member. After administration of the Oath of Office, the current Chair shall preside over the meeting and take nominations for the selection of the new Chairperson and Vice Chairperson.
