RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve a professional services agreement with United Water Storm Water, Inc. for the Culver Boulevard Stormwater System Maintenance in an amount not-to-exceed $177,000.


BACKGROUND

The Culver Boulevard Stormwater System captures and treats stormwater/urban runoff from approximately 797 acres of drainage area. Stormwater/urban runoff is diverted from two Los Angeles County Flood Control District (LACFCD) storms drains on Sepulveda Boulevard and Harter Avenue. Project components lie underneath a landscaped median and bikeway on Culver Boulevard between Sepulveda Boulevard and Harter Avenue. A portion of the captured run-off is stored in an underground retention basin and can be used to supplement the required irrigation for the landscaping along Culver Boulevard. The excess captured run-off is filtered and discharged back into the Harter Avenue storm drain downstream of the project as treated stormwater.

The first two years of operation have had unseasonably heavy rains, resulting in heavier than average sediment, and cleaning/maintenance of the subterranean project components is required to ensure continued optimal operation of the project.
