RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve a one-year agreement with SCA of CA LLC for Citywide Street Sweeping Services in an amount not-to-exceed $900,000 annually with the option to extend the agreement an additional one year.


BACKGROUND

The City contracts for regular street sweeping to maintain the cleanliness and safety of city streets, reduce pollutants that enter the waterways, and ensure good public health practices. Approximately 220 curb-miles are swept once per week and certain arterial streets are swept five times per week. Narrow bicycle paths and painted curb extensions are swept once every two weeks. Additionally, the 13 City-owned parking facilities are maintained by this service as well. Contingency is included in the contract for after-hours call backs for emergency cleanups after traffic collisions or other unforeseen incidents.

In 2022, Assembly Bill 1886 was passed which included Street Sweeping Maintenance as a "public works" classification that is now subject to the prevailing wage as determined by the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR).


DISCUSSION
