RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve a purchase order with Snap-On Industrial, Inc. for the purchase of new tool cabinets and workbenches for the Transportation Facility in an amount not-to-exceed $184,285.37.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Transportation Department's Fleet Services Division utilizes eight maintenance bays for equipment maintenance purposes. These maintenance bays are outfitted with tool cabinets, work benches, and computer stations that allow Fleet Services staff to perform maintenance and repair work on the City's nearly 450 vehicles during their 22 hour, 7 day per week operation. Originally installed when the Transportation Facility was constructed in 1997, the facility's existing tool cabinets and workbenches have reached the end of their useful lives and must be replaced.

The facility's current tool cabinets and work benches are outdated, worn, and lack the necessary storage capacity to support the maintenance of the City's diverse fleet of vehicles. Furthermore, as the City transitions to a zero-emission fleet, the introduction of more advanced, electronic repair and maintenance tools has increased the need for modern, specialized storage solutions.
