RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council (1) waive competitive bidding procedures pursuant to Culver City Municipal Code Section 3.07.075.F.3; and (2) approve an amendment to the existing agreement with Duke's Root Control, Inc. to increase the not-to-exceed amount by $230,000 and extend the term through June 30, 2025.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

There are approximately 86 miles of sewer mains that the Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining. Roots are attracted to sewer lines, can infiltrate pipes, and can cause blockages, which results in sewer backups and spills that can cause property damage or allow sewage to flow into the storm drains. By pro-actively keeping pipes cleared, the risk of property damage or sanitary sewer overflows is reduced.

On April 8, 2019, City Council approved a three-year contract with Duke's Root Control, Inc. for three years ending May 31, 2022 in an amount not-to-exceed $100,000, with two one-year options to renew, to be exercised under the authority of the Public Works Director.
