RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS)
Commissionhear updates from the members of the PRCS Commission Ad Hoc
Subcommittees, make comments, if any, and receive and file the report(s).
BACKGROUND:
At the March 5, 2013 PRCS Commission meeting, a consensus was reached that
updates from the members of the CommissionAd Hoc Subcommittees should be
removed from the “Items from Commissioners” section of the Agenda and agendized
as a standing Action Item at each meeting instead. Based on this recommendation,
staff has prepared this report as a standing Agenda Item to give the Commissioners
an opportunity hear updates from the members of the PRCS Commission Ad Hoc
Subcommittees, make comments, if any, and receive and file the report(s).
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission has three (3) Ad Hoc
Subcommittees; however, one of the Ad Hoc Subcommittees is currently dormant:
• The Culver City Giving Donation/Sponsorship Program Ad Hoc Subcommittee
(established August 7, 2012)
o Members – Chair Stuart and Commissioner Yanda
o Assigned Project – Developing and publishing print and web-based
promotional materials for the Culver City Giving Donation/Sponsorship
Program.

o Status Update – At the May 7, 2013 meeting, there was consensus
that this Ad Hoc Subcommittee would go dormant and be considered
again during the Commission reorganization discussion at the July 2,
2013 meeting.
• The Community Conversations – Topic # 4 Ad Hoc Subcommittee
(established August 7, 2012)
o Members – Vice Chair Greene and Commissioner Kim
o Completed Project – “Food vs. Mind and Body: A Community
Conversation on Obesity, Healthy Eating and Mental Health” held at
the April 2, 2013 PRCS Commission meeting.
o Status Update - Topic #4 Ad Hoc Subcommittee will be dissolved at
the July 2, 2013 meeting, since the members have successfully
reached the intended goal, and, if the Commission so desires, a
Community Conversations – Topic #5 Ad Hoc Subcommittee will be
formed.
• The Sponsorship/Financial Support Ad Hoc Subcommittee (established May
7, 2013)
o Members – Chair Stuart and Commissioner Yanda
o AssignedProject – This Ad Hoc Subcommittee was formed to develop
a plan and a proposal to the City Council for the establishment a
standing PRCS Commission Subcommittee (and/or, potentially,
another type of stand-alone body) to discuss and develop a strategy
moving forward on fundraising, tying in Economic Development,
partnerships and programming. The members of the Ad Hoc
Subcommittee will meet to determine the exact nature of their goals,
which could include, as suggested in the staff report presented at the
May 7, 2013 Commission meeting:
1. Identifying needs within the PRCS Department that can be
addressed through sponsorships and other types of fiscal
support.
2. Defining roles as well as time commitment of Commissioners
and the PRCS Director in this process of developing the plan for
City Council review.
3. Identifying challenges related to this project.

roles of Commissioners and possible partnership outreach to
assist the Ad Hoc Subcommittee in meeting its goals.
