RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council adopt an Ordinance amending Chapter 9.11 to prohibit the use of electronic smoking devices (E-Cigarettes) in outdoor dining areas and City parks and recreational areas, and prohibit smoking and the use of E-Cigarettes in City Hall Courtyard and Town Plaza (Attachment 1).
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At its meeting of February 24, 2020, the City Council unanimously introduced a proposed Ordinance amending Chapter 9.11 to prohibit the use of electronic smoking devices (E-Cigarettes) in outdoor dining areas and City parks and recreational areas, and prohibit the smoking and use of E-Cigarettes in City Hall Courtyard and Town Plaza.
The Ordinance is now being presented for adoption.
If adopted, City staff will modify relevant signage (as signs are refreshed) to include the "no vaping" prohibition in addition to the existing "no smoking" language. Also, as needed, new signage will be installed once the Ordinance goes into effect. The effective date of the Ordinance would be April 8, 2020.
FISCAL ANALYSIS
There will be some cost associated with changing existing signage and installing new signage as needed.
