Fulwood (02/06/08) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council authorize the release of a Request for Bids to purchase a mobile diesel powered sewer pump to provide bypass pumping capability in the event of sewer pump station failure. BACKGROUND: The City owns and operates 7 sewer pump stations that pump sewage from low lying areas of the City s sewer system. The pump stations vary in size and capacity depending on the volume of sewage flowing to each. All stations utilize electric pumps and are equipped with back up generators to provide power in the case of unexpected electrical system outages. In reviewing current operations at the City s pump stations it was evident that additional system redundancy is desirable to minimize the probability of future sanitary sewer spills. DISCUSSION: In 2006 the City experienced a sanitary sewer spill which resulted from the failure of pumps at the Braddock Pump Station.
