Fulwood (02/25/09) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council select a former Planning Commissioner for interim appointment to the Planning Commission to fill the temporarily vacant office held by Marcus Tiggs BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: On June 2 2008 the City Council reappointed Mr. Marcus Tiggs to the Planning Commission for a second four year term to Office No. 4. Mr. Tiggs term began on July 1 2008 and continues until June 30 2012. On November 4 2008 Mr. Tiggs submitted a letter through the City Manager to the Mayor and Council requesting a one year leave of absence from the Planning Commission due to his Army National Guard deployment to Kosovo. On December 1 2008 in recognition of Mr. Tiggs exemplary work on the Planning Commission the Council decided to grant Mr. Tiggs request for a leave of absence and to consider filling temporarily the vacancy until he returns from his military service in November 2009. The Council did mention the possibility of filling the vacancy with a prior Planning Commissioner in order to reduce the learning curve and facilitate the Commission s work.
