RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) approve the program plan proposed by the DAC Architectural Barriers Program ad hoc subcommittee, with adjustments, if any.


BACKGROUND

At the September 25, 2024, DAC meeting, DAC members expressed an interest in potentially expanding the scope of events offered as part of Disability Awareness Month. One potential idea shared was that of a public lecture on the topic of architectural barriers for persons with disabilities. At that time, the committee reached consensus to agendize an item to allow for further discussion on this topic and learn more about their options. At the February 12, 2025, DAC meeting, the DAC formed the "Architectural Barriers Program" ad hoc subcommittee ("subcommittee") to allow for a subset of committee members and staff to study the feasibility and potential planning of a program for the public. The subcommittee met with staff over subsequent months to discuss potential program formats, locations, promotion, and staff impact, among other topics. From these discussions came a formalized program plan that is ready to be shared with the full DAC.
