BACKGROUND: The Transportation Department is requesting to purchase passenger seating barriers for twenty seven (27) of the City s 54 transit buses. This group of buses includes four different model years: twelve (12) model year 2001 two (2) model year 2003 30 foot buses; eight (8) model year 2004 buses; and five (5) model year 2009 buses. The additional 27 transit buses were built after 2011 and are already equipped with seating barriers. This approval would enable the Department to remove forward facing folding (flip up/down) seats on these vehicles and replace them with single aisle facing seats and permanent barriers. The installation of all passenger barriers will be performed by City staff and conform to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards and all applicable Federal State and local rules and safety regulations.
