Fulwood (01/16/08) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution of support to participate in the Southern California Association of Governments ( SCAG ) Compass Blueprint Demonstration Project Program. BACKGROUND / DISCUSSION: With over 18 million residents the Southern California region is the second largest metropolis in the nation. With one of the world's most dynamic economies the region however is also one of the most congested in the country with many challenges facing the residents and governmental entitles including: air pollution and supply and affordability of housing. It is projected that by the year 2030 another five million residents will be added to the region creating more pressure on already congested roadways and scarce housing. SCAG believes that a blueprint for regional growth is needed to address these challenges and provide for livability mobility prosperity sustainably for the future.
