BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The Plant Based Treaty organization is a global grassroots campaign fighting climate change by focusing on the food system. They advocate for plant-based food systems through policy change with global leaders, as well as leaders in local municipalities.
Representatives from the Plant Based Treaty came to the February 27, 2025 Sustainability Subcommittee meeting to present their cause.

The Cities of Los Angeles and West Hollywood both passed resolutions urging the United States federal government to adopt the Plant Based Treaty.
Additionally, the City of West Hollywood passed two additional resolutions in support of the Plant Based Treaty. The first was to adopt the Plant Based Treaty in which all City-sponsored and internal events and meetings are required to provide vegan meals, snacks, and refreshments as default. Animal-based refreshments can be provided in addition to the plant-based options or staff can special request animal-based options.
