RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commission receive and file a report regarding the Municipal Plunge remodel conceptual designs.


BACKGROUND

"The Plunge" was originally dedicated on August 31, 1949. When it opened it was the only public pool on the Westside of Los Angeles, serving 100,000 people per year. It is operated by the PRCS Department to provide comprehensive aquatics programming that meets the needs of the community through highly accessible, enjoyable and varied opportunities for learning and recreation. The Plunge offers a safe, responsive and welcoming environment that promotes the health and well-being of our City's residents. The Plunge was rededicated and reconstructed on June 22, 1996. The Locker Rooms were remodeled in 2006 and rededicated in March of that year.


DISCUSSION

Since the Locker Rooms were last updated over 14 years ago, an inspection was done assess their functionality and to evaluate whether they meet current standards. It was determined that some improvements could be made in the areas accessibility, the implementation of a controlled entrance and overall security and safety for both patrons and staff.
