RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council Approve a contract with CEM Construction Corporation, as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, in the amount of $81,975 for the construction of the Fire Training Tower Structural Rehabilitation Project, PZ920 (Project).


BACKGROUND

The Fire Training Tower was built in 1970 and has experienced damage due to staged fires and wear and tear from continued use. The Project includes removing and replacing damaged concrete masonry block, placing high strength epoxy in areas with visible distress in walls, floors, and ceilings, and installing new doors.


DISCUSSION

On March 14, 2016, the City Council approved the plans and specifications and authorized the publication of a Notice Inviting Bids for the Project. On May 5, 2016, the City Clerk's Office staff publicly opened the bids. Two contractors submitted bids with the following bid amounts:
