RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council and Public Finance Authority Board approve the final plans and specifications and authorize the publication of a notice inviting bids for the Annual Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter, and Driveway Approach Project, PZ-428.


BACKGROUND

The City receives maintenance requests from the public for areas such as broken and uplifted concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter, and drive approaches, due to street tree roots and damage by vehicles. The Public Works Department staff compiles these maintenance requests and investigates them to assess the damage and potential hazard to public. Temporary asphalt ramps may be put in place by the Public Works Maintenance and Operations Staff as a preventative measure while permanent replacement work is scheduled by them. Meanwhile the Public Works Department Engineering Division regularly manages a capital improvement project that can address many of these locations at once, prioritizing locations based on factors such as severity of the uplift and available budget.

This Capital Improvement Project addresses infrastructure repairs citywide at various locations. Since sidewalk uplifts at many locations are mainly attributed to parkway tree root intrusion, tree root trimming is also part of the repair scope, and a City approved Certified Arbori...
