RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council authorize the release of a request for proposals (RFP) for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan consultant services, PS-006.


BACKGROUND

The ADA is a federal law, enacted with the goal to ensure equal access to civic life by people with disabilities. Title II of the ADA requires state and local governments to make their programs, services, and activities accessible to persons with disabilities. It also establishes physical access requirements for public facilities (buildings, sidewalks, etc.). The ADA requires that all cities with greater than 50 employees establish an ADA Transition Plan.


DISCUSSION

The contemplated ADA Transition Plan will have several components. The proposed Consultant will review the City's existing ADA policies and procedures, conduct surveys of City buildings, public rights-of-way, and parks to determine any barriers to access, lead public outreach, create an ADA database, and develop the final ADA Transition Plan document.
