BACKGROUND: Existing law establishes the Baldwin Hills Conservancy (BHC) to acquire and direct the management of public lands within the Baldwin Hills area of Los Angeles County as defined and prescribes the management powers and duties of the BHC. Existing law provides for the sunsetting of the BHC on January 1 2008. On December 4 2006 Assemblymember Karen Bass of the 47th District which includes Culver City introduced AB 3: Baldwin Hills Conservancy: repeal (Attachment 1). This bill in its currently amended form would extend the sunset date to January 1 2018. On June 4 2007 AB 3 was read in the Assembly for the second time and will soon be read for the third time.
