Fulwood (09/06/06) Staff recommends the City Council discuss the Culver City Sister City Committee s ( CCSCC ) practices relating to its expenditure of funds and direct staff as necessary. BACKGROUND: The CCSCC is part of a program that was initiated by former President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956 to promote peace friendship and goodwill between countries through people to people contact. The goals of the CCSCC are to establish relationships between cities in foreign countries so as to link Culver City to a long term program fostering international and intercultural understanding through the exchange of people ideas and materials in cultural educational and commercial areas with select foreign countries. The participating Sister Cities are: Uruapan Mexico; Kaizuka Japan; Iksan City South Korea; Lethbridge Canada; and Yangi City China. DISCUSSION: In FY 2005 06 the City Council budgeted $14 000 for CCSCC activities. In FY 2006 07 $14 000 is budgeted for the CCSCC. For the FY 2005 06 reimbursements shown on the CCSCC s Financial Reports staff has attached the City s warrant requests (Attachment 1).
