RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council approve an agreement with St. Nick's Christmas Lighting and D?cor (St. Nick's) for tree lights in Media Park in an amount not-to-exceed $60,000.
BACKGROUND
In 1987, the former Culver City Redevelopment Agency (CCRA) entered into a long-term lease agreement with the City of Los Angeles to revitalize and maintain Media Park (The Park) and the historic Ivy Substation.
The Park is approximately 1.1 acres and situated on a triangular shaped block bounded by Venice Boulevard on the northwest, Culver Boulevard on the northeast and Canfield Avenue on the southwest. The park was originally revitalized by adding pagodas, planters, lighting and landscaping. Recent enhancements to the park include increased maintenance, power washing, new general lighting fixtures, new trashcans, electrical repairs, and landscape modifications adjacent to the Ivy Substation.
The Park provides much needed open space in Downtown, and if designed with appropriate amenities, can function as a gathering spot for residents and visitors. Current challenges include the lack of restrooms, inconsistent day/evening activation and adjacency to the Venice Boulevard commercial corridor.
DISCUSSION
