Nachbar (08/17/11) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve the final plans and specifications and authorize the publication of a notice inviting bids for the Fire Station #1 Exterior Staircase Reconstruction Project. BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION: Fire Station #1 is located at 9600 Culver Boulevard and was constructed in 1991. The station serves as the headquarters for the Fire Department and consists of an 18 500 square foot two story main fire station building/apparatus bay and 9 400 square foot mechanics building. One of the three (3) staircases of the main building is an exterior staircase located in the rear. The exterior staircase was constructed with wood and with decorative quarry tiles covering the steps and risers and stucco along the exterior walls. Under the staircase a storage room was created for miscellaneous use by the Fire Department.
