RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council (1) award a construction contract for the 2024 Fox Hills Neighborhood Traffic Calming Project Phase 1A, PZ923, to PALP, Inc dba Excel Paving in the amount of $128,500; and (2) authorize the Public Works Director or designee to approve change orders to the contract in an amount not-to-exceed $32,125 to cover contingency costs (25%).
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
At its August 24, 2023, meeting, the City Council directed staff to expedite implementation of neighborhood traffic calming and multimodal safety improvements in the Fox Hills neighborhood. Improvements include new speed humps, curb extensions, bike lanes, and pedestrian lighting. Due to cost, improvements are being implemented in two phases: near- and long-term.
As part of the near-term improvements, staff recommends the installation of speed humps on Doverwood Drive and Canterbury Drive, 11 high-visibility, continental-style crosswalks throughout the neighborhood, and advanced traffic signal detection at Green Valley Circle & Buckingham Parkway.
