Fulwood (02/23/2007) Staff recommends the City Council authorize the Police Department s participation in the California Multi Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (Cal MMET); and approve the Cal MMET Operational Agreement. BACKGROUND: Cal MMET was created by the Office of the Governor in 2001 to initiate a regional methamphetamine narcotics investigation and prevention effort focused on combating the growing problem of methamphetamine abuse in the State of California. The program started in Northern California and has as of 2007 been expanded to include Southern California agencies. Cal MMET is a grant program managed by the Governor s Office of Criminal Justice Planning (OCJP). Regionally the Cal MMET grant program is funded through the Los Angeles County Sheriff s Department. The Cal MMET Grant Program is fully funded self sustaining and entails multi agency task forces comprised of police personnel from state county and municipal police agencies.
