BACKGROUND: Slurry seal is a mixture of fine aggregates and emulsified asphalt which is spread in a thin layer over existing asphalt pavements to prevent streets from deteriorating. The process fills small cracks and provides a new wearing surface and is an effective way to prevent water intrusion to the roadway base thus helping to preserve the pavement and extend its useful life. The process is performed through a one day operation with minimal inconvenience to residents. The Rubberized Emulsified Asphalt Slurry (REAS) product to be used on this project is premixed at a central plant to ensure consistent quality and uses crumb rubber from recycled tires as one of the ingredients.
