BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: At a recent City Council meeting the City Council directed the City Manager to place on a future agenda a discussion of a proposal to rename Bush Way after Albert and Ursula Vera. In preparation for this item staff reviewed City Council Policy Statement 2006 01 Naming of City Facilities (attached hereto). In accordance with City Council Policy 2006 01 the proposed naming would fall under the category of a commemorative naming for which the individual(s) would need to have made extraordinary contributions to the community which have been consistent and continuous over a considerable period of time and be deceased for a period of at least one year prior to the initiation of the naming process. The request seems to comply with those criteria. Should the City Council direct the City Manager to proceed staff will schedule an item for an upcoming City Council meeting where the City Council would formally consider renaming Bush Way in honor of Albert and Ursula Vera.
