RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee (EHRAC) (1) receive and file a report from the Indigenous Peoples' Day Ad Hoc Subcommittee; (2) discuss and, if so desired, approve the report's recommendations; and (3) determine next steps, as deemed necessary.
BACKGROUND
At the June 25, 2024, Special Meeting, discussion ensued surrounding the Biannual Report. Member Rona opened discussions surrounding an Indigenous Peoples' Day Event/Celebration.
Indigenous Peoples' Day was not included in the Public Events and Budget Committee and was, thus, excluded from the biannual report. However, EHRAC achieved consensus to discuss and determine the potential for hosting an Indigenous Peoples' Day Event/Celebration at the July 23, 2024, EHRAC Regular Meeting.
At the July 23, 2024, Regular Meeting, EHRAC achieved consensus to move forward with the following:
1. Creating an Indigenous Peoples' Day Event;
2. Creating an Ad Hoc Subcommittee dedicated to producing the Indigenous Peoples' Day Event;
3. Appointing Members Rebecca Rona and Ifunanyachukwu Nweke thereto; and
