Nachbar (08/03/11) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council authorize the filing of an application with the US Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance for Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funds. BACKGROUND: The Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance has determined that Culver City is eligible to receive JAG funds through a statutory formula that is based on the total number of violent crimes in Culver City reported to the State of California.Culver City s eligible allocation is $15 365 as determined by this formula. DISCUSSION: The Police Department recommends the funds be used to purchase Regional Crime Analysis and Mapping Software. Purchase of the software will provide the Police Department with additional analytical tools data integration mapping and reporting capabilities for use by crime investigators that can assist in the prediction of serial events and improve communication of vital information.
