RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council: (1) approve the final plans and specifications and (2) authorize the publication of a Notice Inviting Bids for the Washington Boulevard Striping and Bike Lane Project, CIP No. PZ-965.
BACKGROUND:
The existing lane line striping and pavement markings on Washington Boulevard west of Sepulveda Boulevard to the westerly City boundary of Walnut Avenue/Del Rey Avenue are faded and need to be repainted. The proposed repainting plan adheres to the City's Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP) by creating 5' wide eastbound and westbound bicycle lanes along approximately 86% of the segment and where narrow, installation of share the road "sharrows" along the remaining 14% (Project).i,ii
The BPMP was adopted by Resolution of the City Council on November 8, 2010 (see Attachment 1). The BPMP provides a guide for the development of bicycle and pedestrian facilities in Culver City with the goal of encouraging walking and biking, thereby promoting health, reducing traffic congestion, creating a thriving, walkable business environment, and improving quality of life in Culver City.
