RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve the final plans and specifications and authorize the publication of a notice inviting bids for the Traffic Signal Fiber Optic Upgrades Project, PL-015.


BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

Traffic Signal Fiber Upgrades Project intends to upgrade (from twisted pair copper to fiber optic) the communication lines serving 10 signalized intersections along the East Washington Boulevard and National Boulevard corridors. Fiber optic cable will significantly improve the City's ability to monitor and manage traffic signals and traffic management devices remotely to ensure proper operation, enhance multi-modal functionality, and further the City's ongoing advanced traffic management efforts.

The intersections to be upgraded to fiber optic are:

* Washington Boulevard & Cattaraugus Avenue
* Washington Boulevard & McManus Avenue/La Cienega Avenue
* Washington Boulevard & La Cienega Boulevard
