Baker) (12/17/08) City Manager Approval: RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council consider a request from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee (MLK Committee) for Funding in the Amount of $1 500 for the Production and Placement of a Banner Advertising the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Event. BACKGROUND: The MLK Committee has been working for the past three years to present an event to celebrate the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Each year the event has grown in popularity. In fiscal year 2007/2008 the City Council allocated $2 000 for the production of an enhanced event. In Fiscal Year 2008/2009 the City Council included $5 000 in the adopted budget for this Event. DISCUSSION: The Committee had discussed the idea of preparing and displaying a banner advertising the 2009 event to be held over the third weekend of January 2009. At this time the Committee is requesting the City Council s support in the amount of $1 500 in funding to prepare and display such a banner.
