RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee approve an event date for the 2026 Juneteenth Celebration.
BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION
The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Juneteenth Celebration Advisory Committee (Advisory Committee) is tasked with advising Economic Development Special Events staff with the planning of the 2026 Juneteenth Celebration. With the timeline of the event being five months away, PRCS staff is recommending the Advisory Committee choose from the following dates:
* Friday June 19, 2025
* Saturday June 20, 2025
* Sunday June 21, 2025
The date that is chosen will be determined on the availability of the spaces and/or venues. Setting the event date will allow staff to move forward quickly with confirming space, contracts, and guests. When considering the best date for the event, it is best to consider the potential to engage the community effectively through promoting dialogue aligned with the celebration's goals and the practicality of each option, including budget, venue, staffing, and overall execution within available resources.
