RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution approving an application for grant funds through Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Open Streets Program for the 2017 CicLAvia Culver City Event.
BACKGROUND
CicLAvia catalyzes vibrant public spaces, active transportation and good health through car-free events (or open street events). The City of Los Angeles has hosted several CicLAvia events throughout the past few years including an event on Venice Boulevard in 2013. On August 9, 2015 the City of Culver City held its first CicLAvia free Open Streets Event "CicLAvia - Culver City Meets Venice". The event was a huge success and had an estimated 64,515 participants.
DISCUSSION
A new grant opportunity through Metro is calling for applications to fund all elements of Open Street Events. The City of Culver City has held discussions with CicLAvia regarding plans for a second Open Streets Event to be held in March or April of 2017 as a joint effort with the City of Los Angeles.
