City of Culver City, California City Council Agenda Item Report RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council approve the contract with William Avery and Associates (“Avery”) to secure executive recruitment services for the position of City Manager. BACKGROUND: The City Manager recently announced that he will be retiring upon the end of his employment contract in June 2009. In preparation, the Human Resources Department requested and evaluated quotes from four (4) executive recruiters to ascertain fees and scope of services provided: William Avery & Associates, Bill Mathis & Associates, Cooperative Personnel Services (CPS) and Bob Murray & Associates. The price range and scope of service for each of the firms were comparable. After consideration of the quotes and informal discussions with each of the firms, it was determined that Avery could provide the level of service and expertise required for this position. They have proven to be consistently cooperative, professional, and always able to complete their work on schedule and within the agreed fees. DISCUSSION: The attached standard proposal outlines the scope of services and fees for Avery to conduct the executive recruitment for the position of City Manager.
