RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) review and discuss volunteer opportunities for DAC members at upcoming programs being presented by PRCS.


BACKGROUND

As part of the Scheduled Activities Plan of the July - December 2023 Biannual Report to City Council, the DAC included the item "Request DAC members volunteer at regularly scheduled Disability Services events." The item was added at the suggestion of staff, who wanted to see increased participation from committee members in PRCS's Disability Services events, apart from the annual Abilities Carnival and Resources Fair that is held in October.

Staff believe having committee members more engaged with these events will help increase their knowledge of the regularly scheduled programs offered by the city to persons with disabilities. This in turn will hopefully inspire committee members to serve as a sort of "ambassador" for Disability Services programming within the community, helping to grow awareness of, and attendance at, upcoming programs and events.
