Kimball) (10/20/10) RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council and Redevelopment Agency Board (Agency Board) discuss and provide direction related to the reuse of vacant gas station sites. BACKGROUND: There are six vacant gas stations at major commercial in Redevelopment Component Area No. 4 (Attachment 1). Many of these stations ceased operations due to leaks from underground storage tanks (UST).1 The vacant gas station sites attract vandalism graffiti tags illegally posted advertisements and litter. The vacant sites typically consist of dilapidated buildings and poorly maintained property surrounded with temporary chain link fencing (Attachment 2).
