Nachbar (03/29/12) Phone Number: (310) 253 5618 General Fund: Yes No X Date: ________________ RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to submit a grant application to fund bicycle parking through the California Department of Transportation s (Caltran s) Bicycle Transportation Account (BTA) grant program. BACKGROUND: The BTA is an annual grant program that funds projects intended to improve the safety and convenience of bicycle commuters in California. This year $11.9 million are available statewide through this grant program and the application deadline is April 27 2012. To be eligible to apply for a BTA grant a local agency must have a Bicycle Plan that meets specific state requirements. The City s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP) which was approved by the City Council on November 8 2010 was drafted to meet these requirements and thus enables the City to apply for these funds.
