RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council approve an amendment to the Executive
Employment Agreement with Carol Schwab as City Attorney, extending the terms
of the agreement an additional eighteen months through December 31, 2010.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
For several years, the City has entered into Executive Employment Agreements
with various Department Heads, which sets forth terms and conditions of their
employment. On Monday, February 11, 2008, the City Council met with the City’s
designated representative for negotiation of an amendment to Ms. Schwab’s
Executive Employment Agreement. The Council authorized placing the item on
the agenda for consideration of approval of the amendment to the Agreement.
The proposed amendment extends the term of the existing Agreement for an
additional 18 months through December 31, 2010. All other terms and conditions
remain unchanged.
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
The salary and benefits for the City Attorney position are already included in the
budget.

MOTION:
That the City Council:
1. Approve an amendment to the Executive Employment Agreement with Carol
Schwab as City Attorney, extending the term of the agreement for an additional
18 months through December 31, 2010; and
2. Authorize the City Attorney’s Office to prepare the necessary documents and
the City Manager to execute such documents on behalf of the City.
