Joint Item o0o Page 2 of 5 Agency Minutes May 27 2008 Item J 1 Budget Study Session Fiscal Years 2008 09 & 2009 10 Proposed Budget: Finance Department Human Resources Department City Council Allocations and Finalization of all Budget items Department presentations commenced: Human Resources Department: Serena Wright Human Resources Director presented the proposed budget for the Human Resources Department for fiscal years 2008 09 and 2009 10. Discussion ensued between the City Council and staff regarding the role of the Civil Service Commission; retirement recruitment and retention issues; retiree health benefits; comparisons with neighboring cities; streamlining the application process; the Student Apprenticeship Program; diversification efforts; employee training; and praise for the ongoing efforts of the department. Finance Department: Jeff Muir Chief Financial Officer presented the proposed budget for the Finance Department for fiscal years 2008 09 and 2009 10.
