BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Plant Based Treaty organization is a global grassroots campaign fighting climate change by focusing on the food system. They advocate for plant-based food systems through policy change with global leaders, as well as leaders in local municipalities.

Recently the Cities of Los Angeles and West Hollywood have endorsed the Plant Based Treaty and urged other municipalities to do so as well. In addition to endorsement, cities, including West Hollywood, are also in the process of implementing various plant-based initiatives recommended under the Plant Based Treaty.

A representative from the Plant Based Treaty will provide a brief presentation regarding the organization. They will request the Subcommittee recommend to the full City Council an endorsement of the Treaty, and they will present a list of 40 proposals for the Sustainability Subcommittee to consider, with the goal of working with Culver City to help strengthen its climate action plan and reach its sustainability targets.
