RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council discuss the subject of state and federal
legislative advocacy.
DISCUSSION:
During the budget meetings for the Fiscal Year 2009-2010 Budget, the topic of
legislative advocacy was discussed. The City Council has approved contracts with
legislative advocacy firms for state (at a cost of $42,000 annually from the General
Fund) and federal (at the cost of $60,000 - $20,000 from the General Fund, $20,000
from the Redevelopment Agency and $20,000 from the Transportation Fund)
legislative advocacy programs.
