RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council adopt a Resolution, expressing support for the workers at Southern California Hospital in their efforts to maintain fair wages, protect employee and patient well-being, and uphold good working conditions at the hospital.


BACKGROUND

Southern California Hospital at Culver City serves as a vital healthcare institution for the residents of Culver City and surrounding communities. Its employees, including nurses, medical technicians, custodial workers, administrative staff, and others, provide essential healthcare services every day.

Earlier this year, Southern California Healthcare System, Inc., (aka Southern California Hospital at Culver City) filed for bankruptcy. Subsequently, in recent months, concerns have been raised by Southern California Hospital staff and their representatives regarding wage levels, staffing shortages, and working conditions. These issues have implications for both employee well-being and patient care. Some labor organizations and community members have voiced support for hospital workers seeking to maintain fair compensation, safe working conditions, and high standards of care.
