BACKGROUND:
Each year, one or more members of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services
Department management staff accompany the PRCS Commission on a tour of
Culver City parks and facilities. For the past few years, the tour has been scheduled
for approximately four hours on two separate days. City Council members, the City
Manager and Culver City School District representativesare usually invited to join the
Commission on these tours. On behalf of the Commission, staff will invite all of
these parties again this year. During the tour, staff engages in a dialogue with tour
participants, takes them to sites of recent and upcoming capital improvement
projects and provides information regarding a variety of issuesrelating to Culver City
parks and facilities.

Park Tour Itineraries
At the August 7, 2012 PRCS Commission meeting, there was consensus that both
one-day and two-day Park Tour options should be presented to the Commission.
Staff is recommending the one-day tour alternative outlined below for the following
reasons:
• More efficient use of City resources, including the Van and Van Driver (these
expenses are not provided for in the Department’s Operating Budget).
• More efficient use of Commissioner’s time, since new information will be
highlighted and there will be no repetition of the subject matter from last
year’s tours.
• Ability to spend more time discussing the five parks that are included in the
Culver City Green Space Plan (North East Trees Grant).
• Ability to focus on and go into greater detail regarding recent and upcoming
Capital Improvement Projects.

Agenda Item Report
Should the Commission prefer the two-day tour option, staff recommends itineraries
that are similar to those of the past two years:
FISCAL ANALYSIS:
The full cost of the 2012 PRCS Commission Park Tour is unavailable at this time. In
previous years, Paratransit Van Driver salary and fuel costs werethe primary direct
expenses associated with the Parks Tour. However, in Fiscal Year, 2012/13, the
Paratransit Program was transferred from the Senior and Social Services Division of
the PRCS Department to the Transportation Department. Staff is currently checking
to see if there will be a charge from the Transportation Department to the PRCS
Department for the use of the Van. If the Transportation Department approves the
use of a part-time back-up Van Driver, the salary expense will be approximately
$153.00 for the one-day tour and $218.00 for the two-day tour.
MOTION:
That the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission:
