Department Approval:Dan Hernandez(12/30/13) City Attorney Approval: N/A Chief Financial Officer Approval: N/A City Manager Approval: N/A RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Commissionhear updates from the members of the PRCS Commission Ad Hoc Subcommittees and representative appointees to various outside associations and City Committees, make comments, if any, and receive and file the report(s). BACKGROUND: Staff has prepared this report as a standing Agenda Item to give the Commissioners an opportunity hear updates from the members of the PRCS Commission Ad Hoc Subcommittees and representative appointees to various outside associations and City Committees. DISCUSSION: Updates from Ad Hoc Subcommittees The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission currently has three (3) Ad Hoc Subcommittees which meet at the discretion of the members. The members of these Ad Hoc Subcommittees may wish to update the full Commission on the status of their projects, discuss alternatives and brainstorm ideas and/or receive other types of suggestions and feedback from their colleagues. City of Culver City, California Agenda Item Report AD HOC SUBCOMMITTEE MEMBERS ASSIGNED PROJECT Sponsorship / Financial Support Mary Ann Greene Marianne Kim Develop a plan & a proposal to the City Council for the creation of a PRCS Subcommittee to discuss & develop a strategy on fundraising, tying in Economic Development/partnerships/programming. Community Conversations – Topic #6 To be determined at this evening’s meeting (see Agenda Item A-3). Plan & implement the next “Community Conversations” presentation. Anti-Bullying Policy Development* Mary Ann Greene Laura Stuart Develop a PRCS Department Anti-Bullying Policy for the City Council. *Note: The Draft Anti-Bullying Policy is scheduled to be presented to the City Council on January 13, 2014. Updates from Representative Appointees to Associations The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission currently has representative appointees to three (3) associations. These appointees may or may not have an update for the full Commission at this evening’s meeting. ASSOCIATION APPOINTEES MISSION California Association of Parks & Recreation Commissioners & Board Members (CAPRCBM) Laura Stuart Delegate Rick Hudson Alternate The purposes of the Association are to (1) enhance the training of park and recreation commissioners and board members; and, (2) support park and recreation issues and legislation; CPRS & NRPA affiliated. La Ballona Creek Renaissance Marianne Kim Delegate Laura Stuart Alternate Culver City based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating long-term collaborative renewal of Ballona Creek and its watershed in partnership with public agencies, non-profit organizations, and stakeholders. Culver City Senior Citizens Association Board of Directors Mary Ann Greene Delegate Rick Hudson Alternate A nonprofit organization that supports the Senior Center and the Senior & Social Services Division in its services to senior citizens. City of Culver City, California Agenda Item Report Updates from Representative Appointees to City Committees The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission currently has representative appointees to two (2) City Committees. These appointees may or may not have an update for the full Commission at this evening’s meeting. CITY COMMITTEE APPOINTEES DESCRIPTION Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Advisory Committee Laura Stuart Delegate Rick Hudson Alternate Considers projects to be recommended to City Council for annual Federal CDBG funding. Two annual meetings generally occur in October or November; staff will contact members with dates. Disability Advisory Committee Rick Hudson Delegate Marianne Kim Alternate Advises City staff and City Council on issues related to the disabled in the community. Typically meets the second Wednesday of even numbered months at 6:30 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Building. FISCAL ANALYSIS: There is no fiscal impact associated with the discussion of this Agenda Item. MOTIONS: That the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission: 1. Hear updates from the members of the PRCS Commission Ad Hoc Subcommitteesand representative appointees to various outside associations and City Committees; and, 2. Make comments and/or take actions, if any, and receive and file the report(s).
